Summary
This document is the third volume of "Jain Rasmala" (Collection of Jain Rasas), authored by Muni Ramchandraji (Kacchi). Published in 1946 by Jivanlal Chhaganlal Sanghavi, it is dedicated to the memory of the late Acharya Shri Karma Singhji Swami.
The book contains two Rases (narrative poems or devotional songs) in Gujarati:
-
Amaradatta-Kasturi Ras: This Ras narrates the story of Amaradatta and Kasturi. It highlights the importance of "Aupatiki Buddhi" (quick-wittedness) and the "Mahatmya of Satya" (glory of truth), as exemplified by the virtuous Shravika (laywoman) Kasturi. The story emphasizes the power of truth, righteousness, and justice, illustrating how adhering to these principles can lead to favorable outcomes, even in challenging situations. It also touches upon themes of marital devotion and intelligence in navigating life's complexities.
-
Lalitanga Kumar Ras: This Ras focuses on the virtues of "Daan Dharma" (charity/generosity) and "Dharma Shraddha" (faith in Dharma), as demonstrated by Lalitanga Kumar. The narrative illustrates the significance of these qualities in a person's life, showcasing how acts of charity and unwavering faith can lead to prosperity, well-being, and ultimately, spiritual upliftment.
The author, Muni Ramchandraji, was a devout follower and disciple of Acharya Shri Karma Singhji Swami, who played a pivotal role in his spiritual and intellectual development. The dedication to his guru signifies deep gratitude for the guidance received, which enabled him to compose these devotional and instructive Rases.
The preface highlights a perceived gap in the availability of Rases composed by Sthanakvasi Jain scholars, especially compared to the prevalence of such literature in other communities. It praises Muni Ramchandraji and other Kacchi Munis for their efforts in enriching Jain literature with these compositions, which are considered beneficial for the present and future generations of Sthanakvasi Jains.
The Rases are composed in simple Gujarati, using accessible language, melodies, and verses that are easy to memorize. The stories are intended to impart moral and spiritual lessons to the community, encouraging them to live righteous lives, uphold truth, practice charity, and maintain strong faith.
