Summary
This document is a Portuguese translation of the English book "The Essence of All Religion" by Dada Bhagwan, compiled in Gujarati by Dr. Niruben Amin and published by Dada Bhagwan Aradhana Trust.
The book introduces the concept of a "Gnani Purush" (Enlightened Being) and the teachings of Dada Bhagwan, also known as Ambalal M. Patel. The core of the text focuses on "Nav Kalams" (Nine Intentions/Aphorisms), which are presented as powerful statements of pure intention or prayer. These kalams are described as the essence of all scriptures and religions, designed to remove obstacles in life and lead to self-realization and liberation.
Here's a breakdown of the key themes and concepts:
- Dada Bhagwan and Akram Vignan: The book begins by explaining the spontaneous self-realization experience of Ambalal M. Patel in 1958, after which he became known as Dada Bhagwan. He established Akram Vignan, a direct, step-less path to self-realization, distinguishing it from the traditional, step-by-step spiritual path.
- The Role of the Gnani Purush: The Gnani Purush is the living embodiment of the Self (Atma), and the direct transmission of Self-Knowledge (Atma Gnan) can only happen through encountering a living Gnani. The book highlights the lineage of Gnani Purush, from Dada Bhagwan to Dr. Niruben Amin and currently Pujya Deepakbhai Desai.
- The Nav Kalams (Nine Intentions): These are the central teaching of the book. Each kalam is a plea to Dada Bhagwan for strength to cultivate a specific pure intention or behavior. They cover a wide range of ethical and spiritual conduct:
- Not to hurt anyone's ego: To speak, act, and think in ways that are universally acceptable and do not injure the ego of any living being.
- Not to hurt the fundamentals of any religion: To respect and not criticize or undermine the beliefs of others.
- Not to criticize, offend, or insult spiritual teachers: To maintain respect for all religious guides.
- Not to develop antipathy or hatred towards any living being: To foster a sense of universal love and acceptance.
- Not to use harsh or hurtful language: To speak gently and kindly, and to respond to harshness with softness.
- Freedom from sexual impulses: To remain pure and free from sexual desires and related thoughts and actions.
- Balanced diet: To control excessive cravings and eat balanced, healthy meals.
- Not to criticize, offend, or insult any living being, present or absent, alive or dead: To extend respect to all, regardless of their presence or state.
- To become an instrument for the salvation of the world: To have the intention and strength to help others on their spiritual path.
- The Power of Intention (Bhaavna): The book emphasizes that the efficacy of the kalams lies in the bhaavna (deep inner intention) with which they are recited. It's not about rote recitation but about sincerely asking for the inner strength (Shakti) from the inner God (Dada Bhagwan) to embody these intentions.
- Akram Vignan vs. Kramic Path: Akram Vignan bypasses the need for laborious self-effort and external rituals. The focus is on the internal shift of intention through the kalams, with the assurance that Dada Bhagwan provides the necessary strength for the change to occur, even if the results are realized in future lives.
- Pratikraman: The concept of immediate repentance (pratikraman) for any wrong done is also highlighted as a crucial practice for cleansing negative karma.
- Understanding Syaadvaad: The text elaborates on "Syaadvaad," meaning to understand and respect all viewpoints, thus avoiding conflict and offense.
- The Nature of Karma and Liberation: The teachings suggest that our current experiences are the result of past karma (causes and effects). By adopting the pure intentions of the kalams, one changes the underlying causes and eventually neutralizes past karma, leading to liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
- No External Action Required: A key message is that one doesn't need to "do" anything specific to implement these kalams. Simply reciting them with sincere intention and asking for strength from Dada Bhagwan is sufficient. The divine energy will work from within.
- Focus on Inner Purity: The ultimate goal is inner purity of thought, speech, and action, achieved through the consistent application of these nine intentions. The book assures readers that by asking for strength, their behavior will automatically align with these pure intentions over time, leading to a better future.
In essence, "The Essence of All Religion" by Dada Bhagwan presents a revolutionary path to spiritual liberation through the power of pure intention expressed in the nine profound kalams, facilitating a transformation from within with divine assistance.
